Tamron's Adaptall-2 lens line circa 1980. Nearly all of these lenses, along
with Tamron's new SP lens line, were introduced in 1979. A few of these
Adaptall-2 lenses were simply cosmetic redesigns of earlier Adaptall lenses,
but most were completely new optical designs which also required completely new
mechanical designs. While a few of these Adaptall-2 lenses are less than
stellar optical performers, they all were very well constructed and were built
to last.
Several of these Adaptall-2 lenses
feature very good optical performance. The 24mm and 28mm wide angle lenses, for
example, have somewhat above average to above average optical performance.
Adaptall-2 zooms with above average optical performance include the 28-50 zoom
lens, both 35-70 zoom lenses and the latter model 70-150 zoom lens. The latter
model 75-250 and 80-210 zoom lenses provide above average optical performance
as well. One lens to avoid is the earlier 70-150 model 02A two-touch zoom lens
since this lens is simply a cosmetic redesign of the earlier Adaptall lens
which had mediocre optical performance.
Adaptall-2 Lens Index
Lenses are sorted by focal
length. Fixed focal length lenses are listed first, followed by zoom
lenses.
